Why You Shouldn’t Set a Valuation Prior to Fundraising

By August 13, 2019 No Comments

Setting the valuation for an early stage startup is one part balancing act, one part guess, and one part what does the market say. It is incredibly hard to do yet it is often one of the first things founders do prior to starting to fundraise. Once they “set” a valuation entrepreneurs then often make the mistake of putting it in their pitch deck or bring it up in a first meeting. Investors need to decide first if they are willing to invest in the business and not get distracted by valuation. If they believe in the company, then focus on valuation.
