Trends in Food & Agriculture – Quick Hits for 2017

By January 2, 2017 No Comments

A few bullets on what to keep your eye out for this year:

  • The clean label movement isn’t going away.
  • Alternative proteins are a thing, but when will it be financially viable and what form will win?
  • Food delivery, be it grocery, restaurant, or meal kits, is not done. Look for more partnership between startups and major groceries and food delivery outlets
  • Drones, drones, drones….So many drone startups. There is so much noise in this space right now it is very difficult for an existing company to differentiate let alone a new entrant.
  • I love startups playing in the logistics space.
  • IOT – Farm Addition. It is here. Who will the big players be?
  • Water water everywhere…what will help growers continue to be more efficient? What will help them protect clean water sources from contamination? Two great problems to work on.
  • The big sustainability problem. (watch for a future post on this!)
  • VR & AR for CPG & Farms. Are there problems it can solve?
  • I just love robots.
  • How will machine learning have an impact in food sustainability? Specifically in food waste management and prevention.
